Recruitment - positive action

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service is currently carrying out, or about to carry out, various recruitment campaigns. We welcome applications from all members of our community and are particularly encouraging those from diverse groups, such as women and members of the LGBT and BME communities, to join us as firefighters.

These groups are under-represented in our workforce and in accordance with the relevant provisions of equalities legislation, we are pursuing a programme of positive action to encourage applications from these communities

As two of our firefighters explain in the video below, pursuing a career with us can bring many rewards.

Drop-in Sessions:

If you would like to talk to someone in person about working at Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, Watch Manager Hannah Caulfield is holding drop-in sessions at Ellesmere Port Fire Station on 21, 22, 29 and 30 August.  Whilst open to all, we would particularly encourage members of under-represented groups (women and members of the BME and LGBT communities) to find out more.

These sessions are designed to offer support around life as a firefighter particularly to under-represented groups, rather than provide advice or coaching on the online application process.

WM Caulfield is available until 7pm on these days.  Ellesmere Port is situated at Wellington Rd, Cheshire CH65 OEZ, telephone 0151 355 3333.  We look forward to seeing you!

Buddying Scheme

As part of this programme of positive action, the Service has established a Buddying scheme, where those interested in applying can talk to female firefighters about the Service.  This scheme is open to all potential recruits, although it is intended to support primarily female applicants.  Questions may cover issues such as the application form, recruitment tests and the work of a firefighter.

If you would be interested in being assigned a 'Buddy' to provide informal help, support and advice during the selection process, please email the following email address with your name, contact details and home address:

Upon receipt of an email, you will be contacted by one of our current female operational firefighters who has volunteered to support applicants through the selection process. Please note this is an informal arrangement and your Buddy will not be in a position to provide you with any feedback in the event that you are unsuccessful at any stage.

Additionally, the following information provides assistance in preparation for your interview.  Your Buddy will be able to assist you further in this matter.
