The opening ceremony

The opening ceremonyToday we had a lie in as we didn't need to be at the school until 11am for the start of the opening ceremony.

After breakfast we put on our Nepal Apprentice polo shirts and headed up to the school, where we then had some time to play with the children, who will be using the early years centre.

The opening ceremony began with us walking through the school gates to the community clapping and cheering for us.  It was very emotional being giving a prayer scarf whilst being cheered and seeing so many happy faces.  We then began the ceremony with multiple speeches from various members of the Kharikhola community who couldn't thank us enough.  We then we're treated to multiple different dances from the children of the school and even performed the cha cha slide in return for them which they seemed to enjoy.

We then cut the ribbon to the school and it was officially opened. We then returned for some more speeches including a speech from Sam Rogers.

The afternoon came to a close with a dance with the Nepalese children.  We then headed to have dinner with the headmaster of the school.

It was an amazing day and one that we will never forget. We are now packing bags ready for our 2 day trek to Lukla.
