Liquefied Petroleum Gas

Whilst the Boat Safety Scheme imposes stringent requirements for the installation and storage of LPG on boats on some inland waters, it is not uncommon that boaters store LPG cylinders in the accommodation space during periods of inactivity. Theft of LPG cylinders may have contributed to this particular practice amongst boaters. The consequences for firefighters called to deal with a fire in theses circumstances is therefore significant.

The use of portable LPG heating appliances is to be discouraged. However, the use of such appliances cannot be ruled out.

Incorrectly installed LPG cylinders, damaged connecting threads can often be the cause of an LPG leak.
