Solid Fuel Stoves
These are very popular on narrowboats, coastal barges (often known as Dutch barges) and on some wooden vessels such as classic and vintage yachts or ex-fishing craft.
In the main they are used sensibly and safely, but there are no small craft manufacture, installation, maintenance or usage codes for these appliances. There has been a sharp increase in reported incidents of fire and CO poisoning associated with such stoves since the turn of this century.
Drying washing, tea towels and fluttering curtains catching flues are particular risks. Look out for any other signs of burning or charring.
