Red routes are roads that carry a high level of risk of suffering a serious or fatal crash.
Across Cheshire, Halton and Warrington, twenty roads have been identified as red routes.
These roads now form part of the Red Routes scheme and have had new red road signs installed. The signs warn road users of the potential risks to them and the number of casualties on that stretch over a three year period.
Red Routes have been selected based on detailed analysis of road collision and casualty data from Cheshire County Council, Warrington Borough Council and Halton Borough Council. Greatest priority has been given to those routes which are experiencing the more severe collisions resulting in serious injury or death.

Recently Granada TV have covered the Red Routes campaign. Members of Cheshire Fire and Rescue were interviewed about our involvement, educating the public on safer driving.
"Road Safety is something we all have a responsibility for. It is not the roads themselves that are a danger, but the people using them. Road users can do a few simple things such as driving at an appropriate speed for the conditions to help reduce the number of incidents. Red Routes are signed to make people aware of the risks but tackling them is the responsibility of everyone"
