Cycle to work scheme

There is currently a cycle to work scheme operating within Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service.

The cycle to work scheme is for Service personnel.

Key aims of the scheme

  • To encourage staff to keep fit

  • To help protect the environment

  • To give employees the chance to own a brand new bike and safety equipment and save money

More about the scheme

From 1st April 2009 the Service launched a new cycle to work scheme, which means that the Service can lease bicycles and associated safety equipment to employees through salary sacrifice - as long as they meet the relevant criteria.

This means that employees receive tax and national insurance savings that can be equivalent to around 50% of the retail price of their bike!

Who is eligible?

The scheme is open to Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service employees who:

  • Are over 18 years of age (for compliance with the Consumer Credit Act legislation)

  • Pay tax and national insurance via PAYE

  • Have a contract of employment that outlasts the duration of the salary sacrifice period and/or completed their probationary period (if applicable)

  • Will earn above the national minimum wage after the salary sacrifice deduction
