Environmental Protection Units
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service joined forces with the Environment Agency to provide additional protection during incidents.
Service launched two Environmental Protection Units, based at Ellesmere Port and Frodsham Fire Stations, which are sent out to all incidents involving five appliances or to those that pose a risk to heritage sites.
The units incorporate a range of specialist equipment that will be used during incidents to prevent further damage to the environment and to better protect heritage sites.
This is in addition to first line response using the environmental grab bags carried on all appliances. The additional equipment includes a 6000 litre flexi tank, inflatable drain blockers, large oil and chemical booms.
