Protection and Organisational Performance

The Protection and Organisational Performance department within Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service is responsible for  the Service’s fire protection activities and ensuring non-residential premises comply with fire safety legislation.

This includes working with businesses across Cheshire to promote fire safety in the workplace and inspecting premises to ensure they comply with fire safety laws. The department also investigate the cause of fires, work to reduce the impact of deliberate fires on the community and leads on the work with Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of
Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS).

Protection

The primary role of the Protection team is to ensure fire safety legislation is enforced in non-domestic premises.  The team also works proactively to, promote fire protection systems and safe practices in the workplace, educate and inform local businesses, investigate the cause of fires and reduce the impact of deliberate fires on the local community.

The Protection team is strategically based across Cheshire to ensure we provide the best possible service to the local community and our partners.  The team works out of local Protection offices based at Chester, Crewe and Warrington.  We also provide technical and managerial support to the local Protection officers from the Headquarters Protection office.

Organisational Performance

As part of the fire reform agenda, the Organisational Performance team is responsible for the Service response to the new Home Office Inspection regime, to be completed by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS). The team will support HMICFRS in:

  • the audit and assessment of performance against the Inspection Criteria

  • overseeing the coordination, analysis and presentation of information to HICMFRS, Service Management Team and Cheshire Fire Authority

  • acting as a key point of contact for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) with the inspectorate throughout the entire inspection process, for example producing data and information as required by the inspectorate, facilitating inspectorate requests during inspections and contributing to the accurate outcomes for CFRS.

The team is also responsible for the coordination of the organisational performance programme ensuring that all internal standards of performance are reported to the Cheshire Fire Authority via Performance and Overview Committee on a quarterly basis.
