Check and check again!

Here are some checks that you can make to help keep your work place safe from arson and other fires:

Daily Checks

Please carry out the following checks first thing each business day:

  • Ensure that fire doors are unlocked and are not wedged open

  • Ensure that fire extinguishers and hose reels are ready for use

Before locking up for the night, make sure that:

  • No combustible material is lying around

  • There are no obvious dangers left behind

  • Alarms and security lighting are switched on

  • All doors and windows are securely fastened

  • No unauthorised people are left on the premises

Weekly checks

Each week check that the following are fully operational:

  • Smoke alarm

  • Sprinkler system

  • The security system

Periodic Checks

Carry out periodic inspections to ensure that:

  • There are no "hidden" fires

  • All parts of the premises are safe

  • The drill for dealing with unattended items can be put into immediate

Extra Security

If your business welcomes numerous customers or suppliers onto the premises, ensure that they do not have access to staff-only areas.  More secure sites need to maintain their security.
