Luke Spencer completed his degree in 2017 through the High Potential Development Scheme with Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and is currently a wholetime operational firefighter.
He said: "Becoming a High Potential Development student whilst I was in university was a very proud moment for me and gave me a clear end goal to work towards once I had graduated. Knowing that I needed to achieve at least a 2:1 degree to have any chance of securing my place on the High Potential Development Scheme and a job as an operational firefighter gave me added determination to succeed.
"During my Summer breaks I had the opportunity to go and work for CFRS on a paid internship, where I spent time within different departments to gain an understanding of how the organisation works. I was also given operational training, exposure to a wide range of experiences and additional qualifications that helped to develop my skill set along the way. Since being on the scheme I have had to work extremely hard to get to where I am now but I can honestly say that I have enjoyed every minute of it.
"The support I have received from CFRS throughout the process has been fantastic and I feel that the time invested in me is enabling me to reach my potential. I am currently a wholetime operational firefighter looking towards the next step of hopefully being promoted to a crew manager and I am excited to see what the future holds for me".
