Serious collision in Runcorn

    Two fire engines attended, one from Runcorn and one from Widnes

At around 10.20am firefighters were called to a report of a serious collision on the Daresbury Expressway in Runcorn.

On arrival crews discovered that the collision involved two saloon cars and a heavy goods vehicle.

The road was closed as emergency services worked at the scene.

Firefighters assisted a recovery company in making the vehicles safe and clearing the road.

They were in attendance for nearly five hours.

Police and paramedics also attended.

The incident has been handed over to Cheshire Constabulary, which has issued the following statement:


Officers from Cheshire Police have police have launched an investigation following a fatal collision in Runcorn.

Shortly after 10am on Wednesday 22 January police were called to reports of a collision on the Daresbury Expressway.

The incident, which involved a grey Citroen Xsara Picasso, a grey Peugeot 3008 and a HGV, occurred near to the Science Park.

Sadly, the driver of the Citroen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Formal identification of the man has not yet taken place. However, he is believed to be a 39-year-old man from the Widnes area. His next of kin have been informed.

There were no reports of any other injuries.

Enquiries are ongoing and officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone with any dashcam footage which may aid their investigation.

Daresbury Expressway remains closed at this time while recovery work takes place at the scene and motorists are advised to avoid the area.


Reported car fire in Widnes

At around 8.45am firefighters from Widnes were called to reports of a van fire on the A562 Speke Road.

On arrival at the scene the crew found that the vehicle was heavily smoking but there was no signs of any fire.

 and confirmed that the engine had overheated.

The crew were in attendance at the scene for around 15 minutes.


Scooter on fire in Crewe

Firefighters used a hose reel to extinguish a small scooter on fire near woods on Gawsworth Avenue in Crewe.


Wheelie bin fire in Warrington

Smouldering bin in Chester

Firefighters were called to a smouldering bin in The Groves, Chester. Crews used a hose reel jet to put out the fire.


Bathroom fire in Chester

    St James Avenue, Chester
  • Attendance:
    Two fire engines attended - one from Ellesmere Port and one from Powey Lane

Crews attended to a fire at a building on St James Avenue in Chester.

The fire was located in the bathroom and involved a toilet roll holder.

Wearing two breathing apparatus, a hose reel was used to put out the fire. 

Fire crews were in attendance for 30 minutes.


Chimney fire in Chester

    Quarry Lane, Chester

1pm

Crews are currently tackling a chimney fire at a property on Quarry Lane in Chester.

Chimney rods and a hose are being used to fight the fire from the roof using a ladder and height safety kit.

5pm

The fire has now been extinguished and firefighters have left the scene.


Three-vehicle-collision on Daresbury Expressway

  • Attendance:
    Two fire engines attended - one from Runcorn and one from Widnes

Fire crews attended to a three-vehicle collision on Daresbury Expressway in Runcorn.

One person was removed from the vehicle by paramedics.

Two males and one female were taken to hospital. Two other people didn't require medical treatment.

Firefighters made the area safe.

Highways England closed lane one and lane two as a precaution.

Crews were in attendance for around 45 minutes.


Three-vehicle-collision in Chester

    Vicars Cross roundabout, Chester
  • Attendance:
    Two fire engines attended - one from Chester and one from Ellesmere Port

Fire crews attended to a road traffic collision involving two vehicles and a HGV at the A55 Vicars Cross roundabout, at the junction with the A51.

No one was reported as being trapped inside the vehicles and crews made the area safe.

Two people were treated by paramedics.

Crews were in attendance approximately one hour and 15 minutes.


Flat fire in Northwich

    Church Road, Northwich.
  • Attendance:
    Fire engines attended from Northwich, Winsford, Middlewich and Stockton Heath along with an aerial appliance from Lymm

Flat fire in NorthwichFirefighters are currently in attendance at a fire in a three storey house which is split into four flats on Church Street in Northwich. 

The fire involves the first and second floor and roof space. Crews are using breathing apparatus, two jets and an aerial appliance to tackle the fire from the roof and from inside the property.

A large fan is being used to disperse smoke from a neighbouring property.

One person has gone to hospital as a precaution with suspected smoke inhalation. It is believed the occupants are out of the property.

Road closures are in place.

Update 8am

Firefighters worked hard throughout the night and the fire has now been extinguished.

Crews remain in attendance and are currently using hose reel jets to dampen down; they are also using a thermal imaging camera to check for any hotspots.

Church Road remains closed at the current time.

Update 11am

Firefighters remain at the scene to assist with the investigation and are digging out the property. They are also monitoring the area using a thermal imaging camera and checking for hot spots.

An fire investigation dog and Scottish Power, who are preparing to isolate the electrics, are now in attendance.

Everyone has been accounted for.

Update 3pm

Crews remain at the scene using the thermal imaging camera to check to check all the rooms for hot spots. Crews are also assisting with the fire investigation by digging out debris.

Update 5pm

Crews are continuing to monitor for hotspots and are continuing to monitor the building.


Fire at a children's play area in Middlewich

    Webbs Lane, Middlewich.
  • Attendance:
    One fire engine attended from Middlewich
Shortly after 8.30am firefighters from Middlewich were called to reports of a fire in the open on Webbs Lane.

On arrival the crew discovered a small fire at a children's play area which is believed to have been started deliberately.

Firefighters used a water back pack to put out the fire and were in attendance at the scene for around 10 minutes.

Anyone with any information in relation to the fire is asked to call Cheshire Police on 101.

Bin fire in Warrington town centre

    Buttermarket Street, Warrington
  • Attendance:
    Buttermarket Street, Warrington

Firefighters from Warrington used water to extinguish a small bin fire on Buttermarket Street.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.

The crew were detained at the incident for approximately 10 minutes.


Chimney fire in Malpas

  • Location:
    Witney Lane, Malpas.
  • Attendance:
    One fire engine attended from Chester
At around 5.12pm firefighters from Chester were called to reports of a fire at a residential address in Malpas.

On arrival the crew discovered the fire was contained to the chimney.

Firefighters used a 13.5 metre ladder to access the roof of the building, they then used specialist chimney rods to extinguish the fire.
 
The crew were in attendance at the incident for around to hours 20 minutes.

House fire in Prestbury

    Legh Road, Prestbury
  • Attendance:
    One fire engine attended from Macclesfield and one from Bollington.

At around 12.30pm firefighters from Macclesfield and Bollington were called to reports of a fire at a bedroom of a house in Prestbury.

Two firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

A large fan was then used to ventilate the property.

Paramedics were called as a precaution.

It is believed that the fire was caused by sun rays reflecting off a mirror.

Caravan fire in Astbury

    Watery Lane, Congleton
  • Attendance:
    One fire engine attended from Congleton and one from Alsager.
At 11.17pm firefighters were called to reports of an outbuilding fire on Watery Lane.

Two fire engines, one from Congleton and one from Alsager, attended the scene and discovered a caravan well alight.

Crews used a hose reel jet to extinguish the flames.

The caravan was completely burnt out as a result of the fire.

Chimney fire in Gawsworth

Crews attended to a chimney fire at an address on Lowes Lane in Gawsworth.

Firefighters attacked the fire from the grate and then made the area safe.


Recycling bin fire in Lymm

Car fire in Warrington

Firefighters were called to a car which was well alight on the driveway of an address in Lysander Drive, Warrington. Crews used a hose reel and breathing apparatus to put out the fire. The fire is thought to have been started deliberately and police have been informed.


Chimney fire in Congleton

    West End Cottages, Congleton.
  • Attendance:
    One fire engine attended from Holmes Chapel

Firefighters were called to a chimney fire above a wood burning stove at West End Cottages in Congleton. On arrival the fire was out, and crews began to use a thermal imaging camera to check for hotspots.

Crews identified a hotspot in the closure plate and extinguished this before checking for further hotspots.
