M6 junctions 18 to 19 northbound

One fire engine from Knutsford and one from Winsford

A bin lorry carrying waste paper caught fire on the hard shoulder of the M6, between junctions 18 and 19 northbound.   Firefighters, two wearing breathing apparatus, used a hose reel jet to put out the blaze.  Under the guidance of fire, police and the highways agency, the lorry was escorted from the motorway to Knutsford Services where crews established water supplies to ensure the materials were fully extinguished.  Specialist cutting equipment was used to gain access to the lorry to ensure all the materials were damped down. The vehicle was then removed by a recovery company.
