Bird hide on fire in Warrington

A bird hide was well alight on the Transpennine Way off Eastford Road. The hide, which is suspected to have been set alight deliberately, was heavily involved in fire.

Because of the remote location of the fire, an appliance was unable to get close to the scene so firefighters used a water backpack to put out the flames and then began cutting away the structure and damping the area down. An additional fire engine attended to assist with getting sufficient water supplies by pumping from open water.

Police were informed of the blaze.
