Building fire in Chester

Guilden Sutton in Chester.

Two fire engines from Chester, two from Ellesmere Port, one from Frodsham, a High Volume Pump and a foam tanker.


Firefighters have been called to a report of a building fire at Tile farm on Wicker Lane in Guilden Sutton in Chester.

When they arrived crews were confronted with a blaze involving a large diesel tank and two buildings.

Fire crews are fighting the fire with hose reels and main water jets. A foam tanker is on its way to help deal with the incident.

There is a large plume of smoke coming from the fire and so residents in the surrounding areas are advised to keep their doors and windows closed.

Further updates will be issued as the incident progresses.

Update:  15:00pm

We have now increased the number of fire engines.

This includes two fire engines from Chester, two from Ellesmere Port, one from Tarporley, one from Runcorn, one from Frodsham, the foam tanker from Ellemere Port and a supporting fire engine from Warrington and the high volume pump and supporting fire engine from Congleton.

The farm building, a barn, is well alight (approximately 150 metres by 80 metres).

Fire crews are currently using three main jets to extinguish the fire.

Police are also at the incident.

Update: 15:47pm

Fire crews are still tackling the blaze that involves a large diesel tank and a barn. The barn contains animal feed and approximately 150 tonnes of straw and hay.

The high volume pump is using water from a nearby river.

Smoke has been reduced, but residents and businesses are still being advised to keep windows and doors closed.

Wicker Lane has been closed. Avoid this area.

There is no impact on the main A56 or A51 - these road are open as usual.

Update:  16:40

The number of fire engines has now reduced to seven. Fire crews are expected to remain at the scene for some time.

Update: 17:00

Crews are continuing to work with people from the site to spread and damp down the contents of the barn.  put water on the contents of the barn. Good progress is being made with the incident. The amount of smoke in the area is now much less.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established

Update: Thursday, July 25

Crews finished fighting the fire just after 12:15am this morning. The investigation into what caused the blaze is still under investigation.
