Car fire on the M6

M6 northbound, between junctions 16 and 17

Three fire engines attended, two from Crewe and one from Sandbach

At around 10.15pm firefighters were called to reports of a fire involving a car on the M6 northbound, between junctions 16 and 17.
On arrival crews found the engine compartment of the hatchback car well alight.
Lane one of the motorway was closed as firefighters worked at the scene.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.
The incident was then handed over to Highways England to arrange the recovery of the vehicle.
Firefighters were in attendance for around 45 minutes.
The fire is believed to have been started accidentally.
