Manchester Ship Canal, Egerton Street, Stockton Heath

One fire engine and the aerial appliance from Stockton Heath, two fire engines and a Service boat from Warrington, the line rescue team and supporting appliance from Knutsford


Fire and Rescue teams are working alongside police following a report of a car submerged in the Manchester Ship Canal at Stockton Heath.  The Service boat is in operation as swift water technicians search at the last known sighting of the vehicle and the police diving team has been requested to attend.

This incident will be updated as more information becomes available.

Update 7pm

Police divers went under the water and retrieved a woman from the car. She was then taken to the shore by the fire and rescue service’s boat. The woman was immediately handed to the care of the ambulance service who took her to hospital.

Fire crews have now left the scene.

The person involved in this incident sadly passed away.
