Hale Bank Road, Widnes. Attendance:
A number of fire engines attended throughout the night from Widnes, Runcorn, Chester, Ellesmere Port and PenkethDetails
Shortly after 11pm firefighters were called to reports of a fire in a derelict building.
The single story former business premises was well alight on arrival and crews, wearing breathing apparatus, tackled the fire using three hose reel jets and a main jet.
Firefighters remained at the scene overnight to damp down and used a thermal imaging camera to identify any hotspots. There were five cylinders inside the building and crews cooled them down and monitored the temperature for several hours.
The fire has been fully extinguished and the cylinders have been removed from the building.
A cordon was put in place, with Hale Bank Road closed in both directions, and a number of houses nearby were evacuated as a precaution.
Fire crews were at the scene for around eight hours.Return to latest incidents
