At 10.30pm firefighters were called to reports of a fire involving a heavy goods vehicle on the M56 eastbound, between junctions 11 and 10.

On arrival crews discovered that the HGV was on the hard shoulder approximately a mile away from Junction 11.

The fire involving a rear wheel appeared to be out on arrival.

A small amount of smoke was coming from the brake hub.

The hard shoulder was fended off by police and Highways England and firefighters allowed the brake hub to cool down naturally.

They monitored its temperature with a thermal imaging camera.

Firefighters handed the incident over to Highways England and left the motorway once they were satisfied that the HGV was safe.

They were in attendance for around an hour.
