Firefighters tackled a fire in a refuse lorry in Crewe. The fire was inside the lorry, in the main refuse compartment. The hydraulics and electrics had failed on the lorry meaning crews were unable to access the seat of the fire.

The crews were called initially to Sweet Briar Avenue but, on consultation with Council officials, the lorry was moved to the depot in Pym's Lane where firefighters and council staff continued to attempt to access the fire. They managed to create an opening on either side of the main body of the wagon using an Oxy Acetylene torch and cutting equipment. Crews then manually removed the contents using stack drags.

One main jet and one hose were used to damp down and crews left the scene at 21.30
