HGV fire in Crewe

A500, Weston, Crewe

One fire engine from Crewe, one from Nantwich and one from Sandbach


Firefighters are currently at the scene of a fire involving a HGV carrying a large amount of hay.

Crews are using two hose reels on the blaze and road closures are in place. Motorists are advised to avoid the area while the incident is ongoing.

This incident will be updated when more information is available.

Update at 15:35

Five fire engines are now in attendance. The HGV is completely burnt out and contains approximately 20 tonnes of hay.

Police are also at the scene and both carriageways have been closed.

Update at 16:30

Crews are still in attendance and are breaking up the hay to extinguish it.

One lane of the carriageway is now open, under police guidance.

Update at 17:45

Attendance is to be reduced to three fire engines. Crews are working with highways staff who have a digger and are dragging hay of the carriageway which is then being turned over and damped down.

Staff likely to be on the scene into the evening.

Update 25 July

Firefighters left the scene at around 12.30am this morning.
