Chelford Road, Prestbury

Two fires engine attended - from Macclesfield and Lymm - as did an animal rescue unit from Bollington and a line rescue unit from Lymm

Shortly after 2pm firefighters received a report of a horse lying on its side in an open field at a farm on Chelford Road in Prestbury and being unable to get up.

An animal rescue unit and a line rescue unit were dispatched to the farm.

They used specialist equipment to reposition the 28-year-old horse to enable a vet to carry out a full examination of it.

Sadly, due to the condition of the horse, it was put to sleep by the vet following the examination.

The horse's owner was in attendance.

Firefighters were in attendance for around an hour-and-a-half.
