House struck by lightning in Appleton

Two fire engines attended from Stockton Heath and Warrington

At around 1.30pm firefighters were called to reports of a possible house fire in Appleton following a lightning strike. 

Crews from Warrington and Stockton Heath attended the address and on arrival there was no signs of a fire.

Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera to check for any hotspots, and also checked the loft area for any damage. 

The crews isolated the electricity at the property and were detained at the scene for around 40 minutes.

Update 3.30pm 

Firefighters were called back to the address at around 2.30pm after the owner noticed smoke was coming from the apex of the roof.

Crews returned to the home and found that the smoke was coming from a small section of charred wood.

Firefighters removed the material and used water to dampen down. 

They were detained at the address for around 30 minutes.
