Canal boat on fire on the River Weaver in Northwich

DetailsFirefighters used one main jet to tackle a well developed fire involving a canal boat that was docked on the River Weaver. Two firefighters wore breathing apparatus. Police were requested to attend the incident to close the public footpath.

The aerial appliance attended to enable firefighters to fight the fire from above and two main water jets and ground monitors were also used.
At 01:14 the canal boat started to tilt on the port side. It then sank at around 01:43. This was due to the significant damage to the structure of the vessel. Waterways and environment agencies were informed. Crews were at the scene for just under six hours.
