Lorry fire closes M6 northbound between J18 and 19

M6 northbound, junctions 18 to 19, Tabley

One fire engine from Knutsford, one from Stockton Heath and one from Northwich

A lorry carrying plastic pallets was involved in fire which resulted in the M6 northbound being closed at Knutsford for several hours.  The lorry was on fire under a bridge on the motorway, so Northwich Road at Tabley, the road above, was closed.

Crews, including two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, used hose reel jets to tackle the blaze.  Three fire engines were at the scene.

Only the trailer unit, carrying plastic pallets, was involved in the fire.  The trailer was moved to the service station area at Knutsford Services as crews carried out a salvage operation and damped down the roadway.

The trailer was then lifted onto a low loader and the bridge inspected by structural engineers and found to be undamaged.

All fire appliances have now left the scene and the incident closed.
