Five fire engines attended, from Lymm, Runcorn, Birchwood, Penketh and Trafford in Greater Manchester

Shortly after 3pm firefighters were called to reports of a fire at a farm in Higher Lane, Lymm, Warrington.

Five fire engines were dispatched to the scene.

On arrival they found a large fire in a barn containing a substantial amount of hay.

The barn measured approximately 20 square metres.

A water supply was set up and four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to bring the fire under control.

The firefighting activity was split sectors, with some firefighters tackling the fire inside the barn and others concentrating on the area outside the barn.

Farm machinery was used to move unaffected hay bales to a safe place.

It was also been used to spread out hay bales affected by the fire.

After extinguishing the fire crews used hose reel jets to damp down the area affected by it to make it safe.

A thermal imaging camera was used to look for hotspots.

Firefighters were in attendance for around six hours.
