Business Safety Week 2019

Business Safety Week 2019Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service will be delivering safety advice to businesses in support of a national campaign in a bid to reduce the number of fire incidents and false alarms in the workplace.

Business Safety Week runs from 9 – 15 September and is an opportunity to provide businesses with vital safety advice to help keep their businesses and buildings safe.

The week also encourages all businesses to double check they have taken the steps required by law to protect their business and employees from fire. Advice will be given on preventing arson attacks, and if needed fire safety advice for premises with sleeping accommodation.

Lee Shears, Head of Protection at Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “National initiatives such as Business Safety Week give us the opportunity to make small and medium sized businesses aware of their fire safety responsibilities. It is also a chance to inform businesses of the help and advice that is available all year round to support them.

“As part of the campaign the Service’s dedicated Business Safety Team will be out and about delivering fire safety advice and support to local businesses. September presents the ideal time, recognising the increased fire risks from additional stock and unfamiliar temporary seasonal staff over the upcoming Christmas period.

“Fires can have a devastating effect on businesses and 80% of companies who do not recover in a month after, are likely to go out of business. But fires can be avoided if they adhere to safety and procedures. We want to equip businesses in Cheshire with the vital knowledge to keep them safe.”:

Statistics from National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC)

In the UK there were 13,862 accidental primary fires in non-residential premises in 2017/18 33% of these fires were caused by faulty appliances or leads or misuse of equipment or appliances.
