Firefighters splashing out for charity

car washFirefighters in Cheshire are hoping to swap buckets of water for buckets of cash.

They are getting ready to roll up their sleeves to raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity with annual car washes at the fire stations in Frodsham, Birchwood, Knutsford, Crewe, Penketh, Bollington, Wilmslow, Middlewich, Winsford, Malpas, Macclesfield, Tarporley, Warrington, Lymm, Nantwich and Chester.

The times and dates of the car washes are:

  • Nantwich, Beam Street: Saturday 13th April from 10am to 2pm

  • Chester, St Anne Street: Saturday 13th April from 11am to 3pm.

Car washes that have taken place:

  • Frodsham Fire Station on Saturday 2 March - £396.48 raised

  • Birchwood Fire Station on Saturday 9 March - £294.32 raised

  • Knutsford Fire Station on Saturday 9 March - £690 raised

  • Crewe Fire Station on Saturday 9 March - £689.92 raised

  • Penketh Fire Station on Sunday 17 March - £293.70 raised

  • Bollington Fire Station on Saturday 23 March - £600+ raised

  • Wilmslow Fire Station on Saturday 23 March - £1071.50 raised

  • Middlewich Fire Station on  Sunday 24 March - £527.60 raised

  • Winsford Fire Station on Saturday 30 March

  • Malpas Fire Station on Saturday 30 March

  • Macclesfield Fire Station on Saturday 30 March - £350+ raised

  • Tarporley Fire Station on Saturday 30 March

  • Warrington Fire Station on Sunday 31 March

  • Alsager Fire Station on Saturday 6 April

  • Warrington Fire Station on Sunday 7 April

  • Lymm Fire Station on Sunday 7 April - over £700 raised.

Firefighter Stuart Plaskett, who is The Fire Fighters Charity co-ordinator for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, said:

“We want to raise as much money as we can for this vital charity that provides essential respite, recuperation and rehabilitation for sick and injured firefighters and their families.

“As such we would really appreciate as many motorists as possible bringing their cars along to have them washed in return for a donation.

“As well as washing cars, we’ll also be offering all motorists vital road safety advice, which could save their lives.”

North west Chair of The Fire Fighters Charity and Chief Fire Officer Mark Cashin said: “The charity car wash is a great way to not only increase awareness of road safety but also to raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity, which has provided assistance to serving and retired firefighters for more than 75 years.”
