Road Safety Week 2014

As part of Brake Road Safety Week (17 to 23 November), Cheshire firefighters will be out and about across the county this November supporting the national campaign, passing on vital safety advice.

This year's theme is 'Look Out For Each Other', because wouldn’t it be better if, instead of being stressful and risky, streets were places where everyone looked out for and protected each other, particularly the most vulnerable?

Look out for each other:

  • Never take chances

  • Always put safety first

  • Make sure you can be seen

  • Be considerate to one another

We all use roads to get around and most of us use them in different ways: often a mix of walking, catching the bus or driving, and maybe cycling, running or skating too. Some road users are especially vulnerable and need protecting by those of us in charge of vehicles.

For this year’s Road Safety Week, the Service is asking everyone to look out for each other on roads, because being selfish can easily lead to tragedy.

We are calling on drivers to protect people on foot and bike by:

  • slowing down to 20 (mph) in communities

  • looking twice and taking it slow at junctions and bends

  • giving people plenty of room

Firefighters will be giving out road safety advice throughout the week at key locations across Cheshire.

Look out for them in -

  • Congleton - West Heath Shopping Centre and Alsager Co-op
