More about Text Alerts

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service has launched a new service which will allow residents and businesses across Cheshire, Halton and Warrington to receive text alerts warning them about major incidents in their area.

People who subscribe to the free online system can ask for messages to be sent to their mobile phone if Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service respond to a major emergency near their home or workplace.

The Text Alerts service operates through the Service's website and people can register by entering up to three postcodes from the Cheshire, Halton or Warrington areas.

The system will mean the Service can warn people where incidents are taking place and also give out safety advice and information.

The major incidents we have to respond to often have a serious impact on the lives of nearby residents and workers and it is important that we do everything we can to let people know what is going on.

While we work closely with the media at these times to keep people informed, the new message broadcasting service provides us with a fast and efficient way to provide basic updates and advice directly to people in the area.

At times of major emergencies providing timely information and advice can help to protect and reassure local communities.

It is important that we make best use of the technology available and I hope residents, particularly those living near known major hazards, take a couple of minutes to register with the service.

To register, people just need to complete an online form. Subscribers can register up to three postcodes, for example the areas in which they live and work or may be the area in which a friend or family member resides.

There is no cost in registering for the Service or receiving the alerts and if people do not have internet access they can call 01606 868657.
