Matches and lighters - fire safety advice

Every match or lighter can start a fire so please follow this advice to reduce chances of having a fire caused by matches or lighters.

  • Extinguish all matches properly

  • Keep all matches and lighters out of sight and reach of children

  • Refill your lighter away from naked flames and in a well ventilated area

  • In the event of a power cut, don't use matches or lighters as an alternative light of heat source

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service offer a free 'Safe and Well Visit' for people who are aged over 65 and for people who are referred to us by partner agencies because they are considered to be at a particular risk.

Safe and Well Visits incorporate the traditional fire safety information (and smoke alarm fitting), but also offer additional advice on slips, trips, fall prevention and bowel cancer screening.
