- In the event of a fire

Get out immediately.
Warn everyone in the property.
Close doors behind you to slow the spread of fire.
Do not stop to collect belongings.
Do not investigate the fire and never try to fight it yourself.
Stay out – do not go back into the property until the fire service tells you it is safe to do so.
Remember smoke is toxic - stay as low as you can where the air will be clearer.
Crawl if necessary and keep your nose as low as possible.
If someone has breathed in smoke or fumes, they should also seek medical attention. Some symptoms may be delayed, and can include coughing, a sore throat, difficulty breathing, singed nasal hair and facial burns.
Check doors with the back of your hand.
If the door is warm, do not open it – the fire may be on the other side.
Go to the safest room with a window and close the door.
Block gaps at the bottom of the door with bedding or towels.
Open the window and dial 999. If you don’t have a phone, shout for help.
Wait for the fire and rescue service – do not attempt to jump or climb from height by yourself, or you risk serious injury or death.
Do not run, as this can make the flames spread.
Stop – stay still.
Drop – lie down and cover your face with your hands.
Roll – roll back and forth until the flames are out.
Rolling several times helps to smother the fire and stop it from spreading.
