Day 7 - Olivia

This morning we woke up for our last full day here in Nepal. After breakfast, we had a meeting with representatives from Classroom in the Clouds and from Shree Kanku School.

During the meeting we were given a presentation that highlighted the school's design, the student’s happiness with their new educational environment and the community benefits from the new building and facilities. We also had video messages from some of the families who live in Kanku, the families are so grateful for the part we played in the building of the school.

Within the presentation we also got the opportunity to learn about the female teaching staff who have received sponsorship from the charity in order to pursue careers as teachers at the school and to try to encourage other females to become teachers.

The representatives from Kanku School, who drove over 12 hours to be with us today, showed their gratitude to Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and to us as cadets for enabling them to provide safer educational opportunities to the children in the more remote areas in Nepal. In return we took over items for the representatives to take back to the school for the children, such as; colouring books, chalk, colouring pens, toothpaste and sweets.

After the meeting had finished we went for lunch at the hotel buffet and following lunch we had the opportunity to sit out in the 75 degree winter sun before we head back to rainy UK. We also used this time to start packing our suitcases in preparation for the early 6am start tomorrow.

Late afternoon we went to Thamal to buy the last of our presents an souvenirs. We had to travel to Thames by taxi as our bus had unfortunately broken down on the way to pick us up. Because of this we had the opportunity to really experience the organised chaos of the city centre traffic during rush hour. Once we got to Thamal we started having a look around the local shops and stalls before going to the ‘New Orleans Cafe’ for our last evening meal in Nepal.

After our meal we headed back to the hotel and endured another traditional Nepalese taxi ride!! Once we got back to the hotel we had a quick briefing about what will happen in the morning and then went to our rooms for a good nights sleep as we’re up for 6am for our early flight back to the UK.

Signing off now, it’s fair to say we’ve all had a great time here in Nepal and what a great cultural and life experience it has been, we got there in the end x
