Details
Firefighters were called to a report of a fire affecting the first floor of a property in Shrigley Road, Pott Shrigley.
Arriving at the scene, crews found a well developed fire involving the first floor and roof space of the property. Firefighters used four breathing apparatus and two hose reels to fight the fire internally, while covering jets were used on the external of the property. A large fan was also in use to clear smoke from the affected part of the building.
Firefighters remain on scene monitoring for any hotspots and checking the roof space for fire spread. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
UPDATE AT 08:00
The number of fire engines at the scene has been reduced to two and firefighters continue to check for hotspots. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
UPDATE AT 12:00
Following the fire earlier this morning, we are now able to confirm that the occupier of the property has sadly passed away. A further three individuals from a neighbouring property were conveyed to hospital as a precautionary measure after smoke inhalation.
A joint investigation between Cheshire Police and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service into the cause of the fire continues, and our thoughts are with those affected by the incident.
