ONGOING: Crews are currently in attendance at a fire at a large disused building in Warrington town centre. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are using a hose reel jet to tackle the fire. Update at 14:07: Further hose reel jets are being used to fight the fire, and the aerial ladder platform is working to access the roof space. Police have cordoned off the area to allow firefighters to deal with the incident. Update at 15:12: Firefighters are continuing to tackle the blaze on scene. Please continue to avoid the area. Update at 16:45: the cordon has been increased by the police and there are a number of roads closed around Warrington town centre. Local residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed due to the smoke plume. Update at 17:05: the following roads are currently closed - Sankey Street, Cairo Street, Ryland Street, Bridge Street Paper Lane and Barbauld Street. Update at 17:20: Statement from Cheshire Police At around 1pm today, Monday 14 April, police were informed of a fire at an unoccupied building on Barbauld Street, Warrington. Officers at the scene are assisting with road closures on Barbauld Street, Sankey Street, Bridge Street and Paper Lane whilst Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service extinguish the fire. There are no reports of any injuries and residents within the vicinity of the area are advised to keep all windows and doors closed for the time being. Anyone with any information about the incident should call Cheshire Constabulary on 101, quoting IML 2069367, or give the details via https://www.cheshire.police.uk/ro/report. Update at 17:35: the incident has now been reduced to four fire engines, the aerial ladder platform and the High Reach Extending Turret. Road closures remain in place at this time and local residents are asked to keep windows and doors closed for the time being. Update at 19:25: the fire is now under control and the smoke plume has reduced considerably. One fire engine and an aerial ladder platform are likely to stay at the scene overnight. Road closures remain in place on Barbauld Street, Bridge Street and Cairo Street. Update at 09:00: Firefighters are still on scene and continuing to dampen down the area with a hose reel jet. This has been reduced to one fire engine. Update at 12:30: Crews are continuing to work at the scene. Firefighters are cutting away areas of the building and exposing hotspots. The aerial ladder platform is being used to cool and dampen down with a hose reel jet. Thermal imaging is being used to monitor temperature. The following roads remain closed: Barbauld Street between Rylands Street and Patten Street. Cairo Street between Rylands Street and Egypt Street. Update at 16:00: The fire is now fully extinguished and firefighters have left the scene. The incident has been left with police who have maintained the road closures.
