Crews are currently in attendance at a large fire that has broken out in Delamere Forest. Firefighters have started to tackle the fire using beaters and water from a nearby lake. It is advisable to find an alternative route and not travel to, or through, the area due to large amounts of smoke. what3words has been used to locate the fire. Further updates will be added when available. UPDATE 17:45 | Station Road through Delamere Forest was closed by Cheshire Police at approximately 17:10. Crews have fully established water supplies and are using hose reel jets to tackle the fire. This has been confirmed as a wildfire due to the scale of the incident. Firefighters are working in sectors and progress is being made. Nearby residents have been made aware of the situation. UPDATE 18:30 | The fire engine from Congleton has now been released from the scene. Four fire engines remain on site and are making good progress damping down. Station Road remains closed. UPDATE 19:15 | Firefighters continue to make good progress. Police have now left the scene and handed management of Station Road to the local authority highways team. At least one fire engine is likely to remain overnight, to continue damping down and monitor hotspots. UPDATE 08:30 7/5/24: Crews have remained at the scene overnight monitoring for hotspots and dampening down. Relief crews will be on scene shortly to take over. UPDATE 12:37 7/5/24: The incident has now closed. Crews have spent the morning dampening down the area with hose reel jets. Before bringing the incident to a close, firefighters carried out final checks with the thermal imaging camera which has shown ambient temperatures. Crews are making up equipment and will be leaving the forest shortly. UPDATE 16:00: The fire involved approximately 21500 square metres and the What3words location of this incident was STAGING.COMMENCED.REMAINS
