UPDATE AT 07:35 | A heavy goods vehicle has entered the canal on Booth Lane in Middlewich. The driver is not thought to be seriously hurt at this time, but the road is closed to enable firefighters to rescue them from the cab. Please avoid the area if you can.
Crews left the scene at around 09:20.
UPDATE AT 09:30 | An inflatable raft was used to rescue the driver of the vehicle and they were passed to the care of ambulance crews. Firefighters are liaising with colleagues from the Canal and Rivers Trust, Environment Agency and police to support the safe removal of the HGV from the water.
