Details
In the early hours of this morning, fire crews were called to tackle a large fire in an outbuilding that had spread to surrounding grassland.
The fire is near to, but not involving, The Hanging Gate Inn pub.
At 03:15, the grass fire had continued to spread and was affecting an area of around 50 by 100 metres. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets and fire beaters to help bring the fire under control.
Update 04:30: Residents are being advised to keep windows and doors closed due to the smoke. Smoke is travelling in a south-westerly direction. A full road closure is in place on Ridge Hill.
Update 05:30: The number of fire engines in attendance has been reduced and relief crews are expected to arrive shortly to swap with our crews who have been tackling the incident so far. Firefighters continue to dampen down and monitor the area. The affected area measures around 100 by 100 metres.
Update 06:10: Relief crews have started to arrive on the scene. Good progress is being made to tackle the fire as firefighters continue to dampen down the area.
