Firefighters are currently tackling a fire which is believed to have started outdoors and spread rapidly to two semi-detached townhouses, having breached the roof space. Six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are using hose reel jets to fight the fire. UPDATE at 16:45 Crews have split the incident into sectors to manage the fire and contain it using hose reel jets. The aerial ladder platform is being used to apply water from height and good progress is being made in fighting the fire. Local residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke from the incident. UPDATE at 17:10 The number of fire engines on scene is being reduced to four as the fire is under control, with hot spot areas being dampened down using the aerial ladder platform. UPDATE at 20:30 Fire crews have used the aerial ladder platform to remove the roof tiles and continue dampening down. Breathing apparatus teams have entered the properties to check for further hot spots and signs of fire spread. A structural engineer has also been on site to assess the stability of the properties. Relief crews have been brought in and we will remain in attendance through the night until tomorrow morning. UPDATE at 09:25 ON 24/5/25 Firefighters have remained at the houses overnight dampening down hot spots. A full thermal imaging scan of both properties has been taken this morning. Crews are liaising with utility companies to ensure the scene is safe before they hand the incident over. INCIDENT CLOSED AT 10:34 ON 24/5/25
