Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished a kitchen fire at a property in Runcorn using a hose reel jet.
A high-pressure fan was then used to clear smoke from the premises. Crews conducted a thorough sweep of the property with a thermal imaging camera to ensure there was no fire spread, and a gas monitor was also used as a precaution in case the fire had affected utility supplies.
Two occupants were accounted for. One person received initial casualty care from firefighters for smoke inhalation, before being handed over to paramedics.
The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
