Three fire engines from Penketh, Birchwood and Widnes
Details
Fire crews were called to a large grass fire on an embankment adjacent to a disused railway line, measuring around 50 x 50 metres.
Firefighters used three hose reel jets to contain and extinguish the fire. Due to the presence of peat, the fire was deep-seated and required extensive dampening down.
Cadent Gas was contacted to attend the scene to assess a gas pipe that the fire may have damaged. Until they arrived, crews monitored the pipe with a gas detector with zero readings.
