Crews were called to a diesel hatchback vehicle, which was well alight on the motorway.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to bring the fire under control and continued to dampen down while monitoring with the thermal imaging camera.
The driver was checked over by paramedics, but no injuries have been reported.
Two lanes were closed while the incident was dealt with.
Firefighters left the incident with Highways shortly before 13:30.
