Emergency services are currently responding to a road traffic collision where a car has left the M6 south carriageway and come to rest on the edge of a brook with the rear of the vehicle partially in the water. Firefighters and North West Ambulance Service crews are assessing one casualty to prepare for rescue. Police are also in attendance and a full closure of the southbound carriageway is in place. This incident is ongoing and updates will be provided when more information becomes available. UPDATE 02:25 (Please note the clocks went forward during this incident - this update is 45 minutes following the incident being reported) Firefighters have now rescued a casualty from the vehicle and handed them over to the care of North West Ambulance Service. Technical rescue crews set up rope systems and committed a swift‑water technician into the brook to assess the casualty and stabilise the vehicle. The vehicle was secured using a winch to one of the fire engines. Firefighters are currently trying to make the vehicle safe for recovery. Police, ambulance and National Highways remain in attendance, and the southbound carriageway of the M6 remains fully closed at this time.
