Details
Crews were called on Wednesday evening and located a small fire some distance from the nearest road or pathway, making access difficult. Firefighters walked around a mile through woodland carrying backpack water sprayers and hand tools to tackle the fire. Crews worked at the scene until fading light made conditions unsuitable to continue, leaving at around 10pm.
UPDATE 10:00, 06/08 | Firefighters returned this morning to check the area again and damp down any remaining hotspots using their water backpacks and hand tools to turn over the ground and prevent any re-ignitions. Crews remain at the scene, but there will be no further updates unless there is a significant development in firefighting operations.
