Firefighters attended a fire in a flat at a residential building in Warrington.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels supplied by a dry riser system to tackle the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring properties. The fire was extinguished and contained to the flat where it started.
Residents were accounted for and firefighters carried out searches of adjoining flats and upper floors to check for fire spread. A smoke curtain was used to protect the stairwell for safer evacuation. High-pressure fans were used to clear smoke from communal areas.
Seven people were assessed by North West Ambulance Service at the scene, with three taken to hospital for further treatment.
A fire investigation has concluded that the fire was accidental and is believed to have involved a lithium-ion battery. Firefighters safely removed the damaged battery from the building and carried out additional checks to eliminate any remaining risk.
