A busy fortnight focused on business safety

Over the past two weeks, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Business Safety Team has been working hard to help local businesses reduce fire risks and keep people safe.

Business Safety Week: 10–14 November

During Business Safety Week, our team visited 135 commercial premises across Cheshire. These visits were all about supporting businesses to understand their responsibilities under fire safety law and offering practical advice to stay compliant.

Most businesses received helpful guidance to improve their safety measures. However, five premises raised serious concerns, and these were referred for full fire safety inspections. This ensures any risks are properly assessed and addressed to protect staff, customers, and the wider community.

Farm Fire Safety at Reaseheath College – 12 November

The team joined students and staff at Reaseheath College to talk about fire safety on farms, focusing on the commercial side of agriculture. It was a great opportunity to help future professionals build strong fire safety knowledge for rural and commercial environments.

Online Business Q&A – 20 November

The Service hosted a free online Q&A session for local businesses, sharing up-to-date fire incident statistics, highlighting common safety issues, and explaining how businesses can access ongoing advice and resources from our team. It was fantastic to answer questions and help business owners gain clarity on legislation and best practices. Anyone interested in attending future events can look out for them being advertised on social media and on our website.

On air with Radio Northwich – 21 November

To round off a busy fortnight, Business Safety Manager Tracey Carter spoke to Radio Northwich about our recent efforts and the vital role we play in helping businesses operate safely. Hopefully, some local businesses tuned in and learned more about how we can support them.

These two weeks show our ongoing commitment to collaboration, education, and proactive safety work. By engaging directly with businesses, students, and the wider public, we’re helping to build safer commercial environments across Cheshire.
