Prevention Safety Team recognised for community safety work

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Prevention Safety Team has been recognised for its outstanding contribution and innovative approach to community safety, winning the Safeguarding and Community Award at the Cheshire East Safeguarding Awards on Tuesday, 18 November.

Hosted by Cheshire East Council, the Safeguarding and Community Awards celebrate individuals and organisations that go above and beyond to protect and support people in their communities. This award recognises the team’s creative and proactive commitment to promoting road and water safety through education, engagement, and prevention work.

Led by Station Manager Ryan Swindells, alongside Crew Managers Jon Linde and Alyx James, the team has delivered essential safety advice at community events, schools, and public engagements. Their work focuses on explaining why safe driving and responsible road use are vital for reducing risk, as well as sharing life-saving guidance on staying safe in and around water - including how to help others without putting themselves at risk.

The achievement also reflects the continued efforts of the wider Prevention team and the strong commitment across Service Delivery in supporting and delivering safety initiatives that help protect communities across Cheshire.

Speaking after receiving the award, Station Manager Ryan Swindells said:

“We are really proud to have won the Safeguarding and Community Award. The whole Prevention team has worked so hard over the past few years to engage with people of all ages in various ways to keep the people of Cheshire as safe as we can. Winning this award is a fantastic recognition of the team’s dedication to that.”

The team’s efforts continue, with regular visits to schools and community events across the county to deliver key safety messages and advice.  Congratulations to Ryan, Jon and Alyx on this well-deserved achievement and for exemplifying Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service’s commitment to prevention, education, and building safer communities.
