Businesses across Cheshire are being reminded of the importance of fire safety as Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service marks Safer Business Action Week with a series of visits to local premises.

Throughout the week, fire safety officers will be visiting businesses in Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Chester, Halton, and Warrington to ensure premises are compliant with fire safety legislation and that business owners and managers fully understand their legal responsibilities.

Safer Business Action Week, a national initiative supported by the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC), is aimed at helping businesses reduce the risk of fire, protect their staff and customers, and avoid the potentially devastating impact that fire can have on livelihoods and local communities.

Fire officers will provide advice on a range of topics, including:

  • Maintaining clear escape routes and fire exits

  • Keeping fire doors in good working order

  • Safe storage and disposal of waste materials

  • Checking fire alarms and extinguishers are maintained and tested regularly

  • Ensuring all staff know what to do in the event of a fire

Business Safety Manager Tracey Carter, from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Services Protection team, said:

“We’re committed to helping local businesses stay safe and compliant. Our visits during Business Safety Week are a great opportunity for owners and managers to ask questions, get practical advice, and make sure they’re meeting their responsibilities under fire safety law. A small step today could prevent a serious incident tomorrow.”

We are also encouraging all business owners to take the time to review their fire risk assessments and ensure their fire safety measures are up to date.
