Cheshire Fire Cadets getting ready for Nepal

Thirteen Fire Cadets and nine leaders are now preparing for their trip to Nepal.

The group leave the UK on October 24 and are planning to trek through the Himalayas to the Shree Garma School, which is in the Solukhumbu district of the Himalayas.

Cadet Manager Jason McTigue is accompanying the group and said: “As a group, we have currently raised £60,000 towards an £80,000 target, which will cover parts of the school build and the two-week expedition.”

The structural framework of the building is up, and it has six new high-quality, earthquake-resistant classrooms, along with an outdoor play area, gender-friendly toilets and a clean water system.

Considerable progress has been made on the classroom block, with Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) work completed for the building footings and foundation columns. RCC is a strong construction material made by combining concrete with steel reinforcement bars. This combination provides extra strength and durability, making buildings safer and more resistant to earthquakes. With the RCC foundation work complete, stone masonry walls have now begun at ground level.

Work is also advancing well in other areas of the project. Footing-level work has been successfully completed in the new outdoor play area and toilet block, providing a solid base for the next stages of construction.

Jason added: “These much-needed facilities will provide a safe, welcoming, and an inspiring environment for the children. It’s going to be a wonderful experience for our cadets, but we all still need to raise a signification amount of money to make this a reality, so anyone that can help please visit the link to the giving page below.”
