Cheshire Fire Cadets prepare for Nepal expedition

A group of Cheshire Fire Cadets will travel to Nepal this weekend as part of an expedition that will give them a firsthand insight into life in a remote village and the impact of a fundraising project they have helped to support.

The 19-strong group, comprising 12 fire cadets and seven leaders, will depart the UK on Saturday 24 October. During the trip, they will trek through the mountains north of Kathmandu and across Shivapuri National Park, walking for up to seven hours each day while experiencing the culture, landscape, and way of life in Nepal.

Cadet Manager Jason McTigue, who will accompany the group, said: "The cadets have worked incredibly hard to raise funds to support the construction of a village school. This expedition will give them a unique opportunity to learn about daily life and culture in Nepal, while experiencing the breathtaking scenery of the Kathmandu Valley and Himalayan ranges."

The project has been delivered in partnership with the UK charity Classrooms in the Clouds, which has a long-standing relationship with Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, and the new school building includes six earthquake-resistant classrooms, an outdoor play area, gender-friendly toilet facilities and a clean water system.

Jason added: “The visit is a chance for our cadets to broaden their horizons, develop their confidence and resilience, and create memories.”

This trip will give cadets the unique opportunity to experience Nepal firsthand, develop a deeper understanding of the communities they have supported, and embark on a life-changing adventure they will never forget.
