Service Headquarters, Winsford, Cheshire (with travel to Loughborough – Scania Academy)

£12.00 per hour / £23,151.49 per annum

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service are a UK Living Wage (Living Wage Foundation) employer. Increases to hourly rates are advised by the Foundation at the beginning of November each year.
An opportunity has arisen for an Apprentice Multi Vehicle Technician to join our Fleet Services Team here at Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service. We are looking for an individual who is interested in learning and developing practical and technical skills whilst undertaking an apprenticeship training programme delivered by Remit, through the Scania Academy.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service operates a fleet of 99 'Red Fleet' vehicles, 130 support vehicles and associated equipment. The fleet is a combination of LGV Fire Appliances, light commercial and cars. The Service currently maintains the fleet through our internal workshop facility based at Service Headquarters in Winsford.
As part of the apprenticeship programme the successful candidate will be registered on the heavy vehicle service and maintenance technician apprenticeship and will be required to travel to Loughborough (LE12 9YB) to undertake training comprising of 6 x 1-week blocks per year, (every 2 months) where you will be required to stay in overnight accommodation (4 nights). It will be the successful candidates responsibility to travel to and from Loughborough although accommodation and travel expenses will be funded by the Service.
As part of the apprenticeship and whilst developing your skills and knowledge you will support our technicians to offer an efficient and competitive vehicle maintenance service to Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service.
You will be forward thinking, adaptable and have the ability to work in an organised and methodical way to analyse and solve problems. You will be able to demonstrate mechanical skills and communicate both orally and in writing.
Applicants must have:
Maths and English GCSE (Grade C/4 or above) or functional skills level 2 equivalent.
Be reliable, flexible, diligent and be a good time keeper
Have an understanding of heavy vehicle technologies
Knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation
Ability to work as part of a team.
