Firefighters were called to reports of a building fire in Canal Street, Congleton. On arrival they found the rear of a bungalow involved in fire. Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to start tackling the fire and were able to rescue a dog from inside the property. A further two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus then supported in extinguishing the fire. A large fan was also used to clear smoke out of the property. The occupant, who had managed to escape before the arrival of the fire and rescue service, was checked over by attending paramedics. An initial investigation into the cause of the fire suggests that the fire started accidentally due to an electrical fault with the fridge-freezer unit.
